Times NIE Fundamental Quiz 2013

QuizTimes NIE Fundamental Quiz 2013 competition was organized in Kolkata on 28 June 2013. More than 300 students of class IX to XII were gathered in the auditorium of South City International School to participate in competition. Schools are allowed to form 2-3 students team to participate in the Quiz. The quiz master Lloyd Saldanha hosted the quiz.

At 12 noon, the competition started with a written preliminary round where all the teams had to answer 20 questions in 30 minutes. Finally six teams were shortlisted for the next round. The teams were

  • DPS Newtown,
  • Lakshmipat Singhania Academy,
  • Birla High School,
  • St James’ School,
  • Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and
  • DPS Ruby Park

The finals saw five rounds named after columns which come out regularly in the Student Edition in the news paper “The Times of India”.

The rounds were

  • Solving a “Crossword puzzle”
  • A visual round “Soul Curry”
  • A buzzer round “Game Plan” where the students were given clues from the alphabets in the boxes provided
  • A lateral thinking round Code Decode where three or four visuals were given with an audio or video clip to the teams to identify the person

 Lakshmipat Singhania Academy emerged winners with 50 points. At 45, St James came a close second and BHS stood third with 25 points. Rohit More of Just Schools and Professor Satyajit Chakrabarti, director, IEM, gave away prizes to the other five finalists. The chief guest at the event was former cricketer and coach Saradindu Mukherjee.
